If you are a yoga instructor who is passionate about working in specialized ways with women during their childbearing years, you will fall in love with this 85 Hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training certification approved by Yoga Alliance.
This training is also open to aspiring yoga instructors, birth assistants, doulas, midwives, nurses, doctors, and mamas who are motivated to learn how yoga empowers women to listen to their bodies, respect their innate wisdom, and make informed decisions during pregnancy, labor, delivery and after birth.
Birthing is one of the most powerful and transformational experiences a woman can have. Physical and emotional support and preparation is necessary for a woman to approach birthing from a place of strength and positivity. Yoga is a unique, functional and effective tool to incorporate throughout the journey. This program will teach you how to support pregnant women who come to your non-specialty flow classes with appropriate modifications, however the focus will be on creating intelligent, safe, and joyful sequences that address the specific needs of mamas during all stages of pregnancy and after baby.
In this program you will learn as much about yourself as you will about how to use yoga as a tool to support women through pregnancy and afterwards. You will gain knowledge about ancient and modern birthing and post-pregnancy practices that will allow you to consciously form your own beliefs about birth and beyond. This training will provide you the opportunity to connect and share with other women and experience a deep sense of nurture and community.Your training leaders:

Integrating Science & Spirit
This 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is foundational for learning to teach yoga. This program is registered through internationally-recognized Yoga Alliance and meets their credentialing standards for a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program.
Whether your intention is to teach yoga or deepen your practice, Mind the Mat’s Teacher Training Program offers an empowering and experiential education:
Cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself through an applied understanding of yogic history, philosophy and lifestyle.
Gain a greater knowledge of anatomy and functional movement. Become skilled in incorporating the diverse aspects of yoga into your teaching.
Learn to work with special populations, including those with specific physical, emotional and mental needs.
Become a compassionate, authentic and well-rounded yoga practitioner or teacher through 200+ hours of training steeped in science and simultaneously rooted in ancient wisdom. Our program also encourages a strong creative focus to unlock the individual potential and unique voice of each trainee.
You will come away with a strong foundation in the technical, inspirational, and business sides of yoga, including the tools to guide yourself and your students through a profound experience.
Our Three Areas of Emphasis
Experiential Learning
We believe in putting knowledge into practice and experience, rather than simply reading texts and writing essays.
Yoga with a Pilates twist: we incorporate skilled core stability and activation principles taught by a Doctor of Physical Therapy & Pilates Instructor. Unique to our program, graduates have a thorough understanding of core anatomy and the ability to properly cue core engagement.
Understand both the physical and energetic purpose of your class, how functional movement balances habitual movement patterns, and how breath and meditation balance habitual thought patterns and emotional reactions.
You will learn both western functional anatomy and yogic anatomy and how to apply them to yoga postures.
Includes in-depth study and practice of asana (yoga poses), pranayama (yogic breathing exercises), meditation, and teaching practicum (including but not limited to modules on safe and appropriate sequencing, crafting a class start to finish, and practice teaching experience)
2. Personal Growth
We value the unique qualities of each individual and their style; no "cookie-cutter" teachers here (on our teaching team or in our training graduates!)
You will learn how use the ancient philosophy and wisdom of yoga to live authentically, with greater health and wellness.
Includes mindfulness exercises, the history & lineages of yoga, tools for transformation, and a nurturing, supportive community of peers and teachers.
In depth conversations on race, trauma, diversity, equity and inclusion in yoga spaces.
3. Teaching Methodology
You will learn Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics and how to apply it to yoga asana for diverse populations.
We teach the importance of leading with confidence and holding sacred space.
You will learn specific tools/techniques to be an effective teacher.
We coach trainees on skilled verbal cueing, assisting, sequencing, class planning, ethics, and the business aspects of yoga.
Trainees have extensive opportunities to practice sequencing and teaching before graduating from this program.
What Makes This Training Exceptional
Special Populations Training
We have an inclusive studio environment and work with a range of students of varying shapes, sizes, and needs.
Includes Seniors, those with Injuries and limitations, Prenatal, Postpartum, and more....
You will learn skills to teach students in this key niche of the yoga world.
Includes study of why and how to modify for students’ individual needs.
This is included in the 200-hour program.
Please email director at mtmteachertraining@gmail.com with specific questions and to learn more about this dynamic program.

Mind the Mat Apprenticeship Program
Mind the Mat’s signature apprenticeship program is an optional, but highly encouraged, next step after the completion of our 200-hour program. Apprenticeship supports new yoga teacher training graduates to segue seamlessly from training to teaching classes in a studio environment if that is your goal. Approximately half of our graduates complete the apprenticeship, especially if they wish to gain additional experience with special populations or accumulate teaching hours in a studio environment (a necessary step to auditioning for instructor positions).
Participants may choose to work with an instructor that resonates with their own personal practice and teaching style. With a dedicated team of expert instructors on the Mind the Mat team, we have a wide range of specialties to choose from. Most people complete this program in approximately 4-6 months; however, we fully acknowledge each person's journey is unique. We will work with you on a timeline that fits your schedule.
This program is open to graduates of the Mind the Mat 200-hour yoga teacher training program as well as those from other 200-hour yoga teacher training programs.
For more specifics, email our program director at mtmteachertraining@gmail.com.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM FOR YOGA INSTRUCTORS | ENROLLMENT IS OPEN AND ONGOING
This program is ideal for those who wish to develop their teaching skills, build confidence, and connect more deeply with their unique voice and teaching style. It is an excellent segue between teacher training and teaching regular weekly classes.
This is a special program unique to Mind the Mat. Individuals are paired with one of our experienced mentor instructors for guidance, coaching, and development around elements of personal practice and teaching yoga. Stepping into a teaching role is a great responsibility. It is one that requires patience, confidence and great respect for the lineage of yoga and the seat of the teacher. One of the best ways to develop your skills and confidence as a yoga teacher is work 1×1 with an experienced mentor.
Prerequisites:
Completion of a 200-hour training program and certification from a yoga alliance accredited training.
Minimum 3 months of regular practice at Mind the Mat before beginning the Apprenticeship Program in order to be well-versed in our class schedule, teaching styles, instructor team and integrated in the community.
Completion of an informal interview with our Director of Instructor and Community Development to ensure a good fit and to assist in pairing you with a mentor.
Enrollment is open and ongoing. Please contact our Director of Instructor & Community Development, Caroline Deitch at MtMTeacherTraining@gmail.com to inquire or with questions.
Please Note: the program fee also now includes a studio membership.
-
Once you have been paired with one of our experienced mentors, the Apprenticeship Program consists of:
Observing 10 classes under the guidance of your mentor. There is great value that comes from observing another teacher, listening for cues and observing classroom management when you are not on your own mat. It is also incredibly beneficial to the learning process to observe a group of individuals move through a practice to better understand and notice movement patterns, how to cue to the room, and the finer details of classroom management. We will provide guidance on what to look for and you will review your notes afterward with your mentor.
Co-teaching in 5 classes with your mentor. You will instruct a short portion of your mentor’s class with specific sequencing, cueing, assisting or other goals discussed ahead of time. How/when will be discussed beforehand and reviewed together afterward.
Assisting in 5 classes with your mentor. Includes supporting with classroom set-up and clean-up, checking in students, verbal assists, learning how to guide students for self-assists, offering hands-on assists if/when relevant.
Teaching 3-5 “community classes” at Mind the Mat. These are special donation-based classes with newer teachers and current apprentices. We invite our entire MtM community to attend. Your mentor will work with you to create the description, schedule and sign-up for these, will attend at least 1-2 of these and offer you feedback afterward.
Throughout the apprenticeship you will also meet with your mentor occasionally to review what you are learning, go over your questions and your progress.
These meetings and the schedule will be tailored to the individual and may include working with components of yogic philosophy, developing a regular personal practice, journaling/reflection guided by the mentor, recommended reading, etc.
This portion will assist you in becoming an even more effective teacher by building greater confidence in yoga "off the mat" and a deeper connection to your own authentic voice/how you share it.
Our Yoga Apprenticeship Program is somewhat customizable for each mentee, in terms of the steps listed above. as some will need more co-teaching and assisting hours and some will need more community teaching hours.
The exact number of hours may vary among categories in order to suit the needs of the participant. This will be guided and determined in partnership between the apprentice, the mentor and our Director of Instructor and Community Development.
Please note: Apprentices may sometimes begin subbing or teaching classes at Mind the Mat while simultaneously enrolled in this program. During the program, Apprentices will be paid Mind the Mat’s Apprentice Rate of $20/class taught. Once the program is complete, Apprentices may be offered an opportunity to officially join the Mind the Mat Instructor Team at a higher rate.
-
Program Fee: $300 per month*, minimum of 4 months.
*NOTE: Program fee now also Includes an unlimited studio membership to all 3 of our studio locations. Becoming integrated in the Mind the Mat community is essential to this program, especially for those who may have goals to teach at Mind the Mat.
This is a self-pace program but most apprentices complete this program in 4-6 months.
To inquire or enroll, please contact our Director of Instructor & Community Development, Caroline Deitch: mtmteachertraining@gmail.com
