If you are a yoga instructor who is passionate about working in specialized ways with women during their childbearing years, you will fall in love with this 85 Hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training certification approved by Yoga Alliance.
This training is also open to aspiring yoga instructors, birth assistants, doulas, midwives, nurses, doctors, and mamas who are motivated to learn how yoga empowers women to listen to their bodies, respect their innate wisdom, and make informed decisions during pregnancy, labor, delivery and after birth.
Birthing is one of the most powerful and transformational experiences a woman can have. Physical and emotional support and preparation is necessary for a woman to approach birthing from a place of strength and positivity. Yoga is a unique, functional and effective tool to incorporate throughout the journey. This program will teach you how to support pregnant women who come to your non-specialty flow classes with appropriate modifications, however the focus will be on creating intelligent, safe, and joyful sequences that address the specific needs of mamas during all stages of pregnancy and after baby.
In this program you will learn as much about yourself as you will about how to use yoga as a tool to support women through pregnancy and afterwards. You will gain knowledge about ancient and modern birthing and post-pregnancy practices that will allow you to consciously form your own beliefs about birth and beyond. This training will provide you the opportunity to connect and share with other women and experience a deep sense of nurture and community.Your training leaders:

Stepping into a teaching role is a great responsibility. It is one that requires patience, confidence and great respect for the lineage of yoga and the seat of the teacher. One of the best ways to develop your skills and confidence as a yoga teacher is to be mentored by more experienced teachers. This program is for those who want to develop their skills and connect more deeply with their unique voice and teaching style. It is an excellent segue between teacher training and teaching your own classes.
Mind the Mat Apprenticeship Program consists of:
Choosing your yoga mentor from the teachers that instruct at Mind the Mat.
Observing 10 classes (same teacher or different styles and teachers) at Mind the Mat. There is great value that comes from watching another teacher and from watching a group of individuals move. We provide guidance on what to look for and you will review your notes afterward with your mentor.
Co-teaching 5 classes in your mentor's Mind the Mat (with a focus on a style you are interested in). How/when will be discussed beforehand and reviewed together afterward.
Developing your assists, which includes verbal assists, learning how to guide students for self-assists in certain postures, working 1x1/in small groups to train on how to safely offer hands-on assists if/when relevant. The goal is to assist up to 5 classes with your mentor at Mind the Mat. This section may also include (as needed) help setting up for classes, helping clean up at the end of class, bringing props to students if necessary. Please note: The timing is TBD on some of this due to covid-19 restrictions.
Teaching 5 community classes at Mind the Mat. These are free classes we invite our entire MtM community to attend. Your mentor will work with you to create the description, schedule and sign-up for these, will attend at least 2 of these and offer you feedback. One of these can also serve as an audition if your goal is to become part of the MtM Teaching Team.
One on one meetings with your mentor to support you in deepening your own practice. This is tailored to the individual and may include guidances on working with components of yogic philosophy, developing a regular personal practice, journaling/reflection guided by the mentor, recommended reading, etc. This portion will assist you in becoming an even more effective teacher by building greater confidence in yoga "off the mat" and a deeper connection to your own authentic voice/how you share it.
The program is adjustable for each mentee, as some will need more co-teaching and assisting hours and some will need more community teaching hours. The exact number of hours may vary among categories in order to suit the needs of the participant.
